Joe moved to the island of Oahu in Jan 1993. He worked for a local church in Kahuku doing construction and repairs and learned about the local lifestyle. Joe rented a room from big wave surf legend Ken Bradshaw at Sunset Beach on the North Shore of Oahu. While living on the North Shore, Joe learned how to surf and survive in Hawaii. Joe moved to the Big Island of Hawaii in 1995 to Seaview Estates, which is a close-knit community near the old village of Kalapana. In 1992 the village of Kalapana was destroyed by the lava flow. The closest town was now Pahoa. Joe fit right in with the local people, and because he cared for the A'aina (the land), they shared with him the best fishing and diving locations on the coast, as well as several secret hiking trails. He spent time exploring and learning about the island. Joe started doing adventure tours because he wanted to share this knowledge of Hawaii. He realized that visitors did not get to see these hidden areas of Hawaii because they did not know where to go. Joe strives to educate visitors about the history and local plants of the area, while conducting safe, eco-friendly tours. We leave nothing but our footprints, and take out any trash we may find.
